  • { beauty of simplicity }

“as Jesus and His disciples were on their way, he came to a village where a woman named martha opened her home to Him. she had a sister called mary who sat at the Lord’s feet listening to what He said. but martha was distracted by all the preparations that had to be made. she came to Him and asked ‘Lord, don’t you care that my sister has left me to do the work by myself? tell her to help me!’

‘martha, martha’ the Lord answered, ‘you are worried and upset about many things, but

    only one thing is needed.

mary has chosen what is better, and it will not be taken away from her.’ ” luke 10:38-41

i have read over these verses today and realized how distracted i become as martha did here. i can get sooo distracted by “working” for the Lord, theology, doctrines, and many different beliefs. i can get so distracted that i lose sight of Jesus and the simplicity of His love. i desire a child-like faith…

…a faith that is always holding onto Christ through every circumstance. i might not be able to interpret scripture acurately and i might not even know all of the books of the Bible in ascending order :) but to have a relationship with Jesus Christ is all that matters to me. it is sitting at His feet that is above all, most joyful….

    it’s the beauty of simplicity

that brings me down to my knees

    i’ll Praise You for eternity

    and Lord i love you

because You, You first loved me

“but i fear that somehow you will be led away from your pure and simple
devotion to Christ, just as eve was deceived by the serpent.”

  • Amen to that! I think that is one of Satan’s traps, to get us all caught up in our “religious” lives. It is a real blessing to stand back and rest in the love of Christ for His bride.

  • Yes, its very easy to be distracted. So many things that goes on in our daily lives. Many times I need to slow down and take a step or two back. Get re-focus. It is the enemy snare trap that is set out for us to be too busy in Doing things…..things that always be there, but the time we have with JESUS is not. We limited the time with him instead limited the things that we take on more than we are suppose too! Thanks for the reminder that you express in your message!

In our lives may you be Glorifed GOD!

  • “only one thing is needed.” Arielle, I have had the same scripture in my heart. Praise God. Surely this is the one thing needful is to know and love Jesus.

  • But to have a relationship with Jesus Christ is all that matters to me. it is sitting at His feet that is above all, most joyful….

Amen. Have a nice week Arielle

  • yes..

    be still.
    Remain in Him.

    amen.

  • Thanks for the reminder…

  • That’s cool that you posted about that “one thing”.  One of the pastors at our church, Josh, keeps quoting that.  It’s awesome when God shows Josh a new thing in Scripture because he’ll repeat it and repeat it everytime you see him so that you can’t forget and it becomes application to your own life.  [laughs] And I would say that often times I’m a Martha as well.  I love to do things.  But it is very needful to put sitting at Jesus’ feet, getting to know Him, enjoying His presence, at top priority.  Thanks for sharing your devotions.  =)

  • amen. it’s the truth

  • Hello. I saw you commented on lightdad’s site and it reminded me that I wanted to get in touch with you. Your site is very nice! I actually remembered that I had visited your site once, I think finding it through sermonindex, one of my very favorite web sites. Could you tell me in layman’s terms how to get the Keith Green “devotion or devotion” link on my site? I tried but failed. That would be so great! Oh, and I think I ascertained that you may be a student at Nyack College (is this true), where we are thinking of as a possibility for our son, Salem, for next year (xanga.com/great_sea). Salem and Noah (xanga.com/seventimesfallen, my other son may be stopping by the college traveling from Virginia to NY to see lightdad in late December. Perhaps you could be a contact at the school or know of someone, in case they get to stop by. This is all, Lord willing.
