This has been on my heart the last couple of days. I think that humility is something that is lacking in Christianity today. …It is handing everything over to the Lord so that He can be my all. It is something that I need so much more in my life.

Humility is precious and it is beautiful. The one the Lord esteems is he who is humble and contrite in spirit. We are prideful humans by nature and in the world today, it is not easy to rid of all pride. It is a lifelong task that takes hard work and patience. Webster defines humility as “reflecting, expressing, or offered in a spirit of deference or submission.” Submit to His ways, let go of pride…and let humility be a reflection of my heart.

“In God’s presence, humility is not a posture we assume for a time-when we think
    of Him or pray to Him-  but the very spirit of our life.” {Andrew Murray}

The perfect example of humility is Jesus Himself. He is the one who sat and washed His disciples’ feet. He was the one who was ridiculed by the Pharisees. He was the one who spent time with the beggars, the hurting, and the weak. He is the one who made Himself nothing so that others could have everlasting life.

    I read this today:

“Your attitude should be the same as that of Christ Jesus:
Who, being in very nature God,
did not consider equality with God something to be grasped,
        but made himself nothing,
taking the very nature of a servant,
        being made in human likeness.
And being found in appearance as a man,
        he humbled himself
    and became obedient to death—
even death on a cross “

  • O.K-I’m going to be really honest here. When I occasionally get on your site and read your entries(didn’t really pay attention to your facts about you) I totally thought that you were a thirty something missionary who had traveled the world and was well versed in scriptures and theology because of seminary and world expriences. I didn’t know you were 16!!! Wow, girl!!!God has something amazing in line for you. Your godliness is so convicting and (although I don’t have much time right now) I am so glad to know that you read the greats (Piper especially!) too. Praise God that each generation raises up youth to serve God and enjoy Him forever. Keep it up Arielle!

  • humility comes when I truly realizes who I am in light of who God is.

I look at who I am without the fall and I shudder.

I look at who I am because the fall and I tremble.

I look at who I am because of Christ and I weep.

I look at who he is calling me to be and I’m filled with awe.

I look at who I am to be for eternity and confess that eternity starts today.

And in view of God’s mercy I am truly humbled and submit.

Lord, here I am have your way in me!!!

  • Hi Arielle. It’s always good to hear about humility. Thanks. Good post!

  • A- beautiful post! It really shows your heart. The pictures are great- especially the last one of you and Dad (hmmm, wonder who took that one? :) Keep shining for Him- our All in All! Love you-M

  • What a blessed woman you are! Sounds like you have a wonderful family…how special! Enjoy your weekend and have a blessed Lord’s Day! ~Dianna

  • oh humility.

    such a beautiful thing.

  • I am so blessed by you…Your tender and humble spirit is evident through each entry, for you are always pointing to Christ.  I agree with the earlier poster who said she was amazed at your age!  Indeed, maturity in Christ is not dependent on age…I thank God for your surrendered life.  What an example to a forty-six-year-old like me!  With much love and many prayers, Paula

  • Hi Arielle! Such beauty in true humility. Andrew Murray, yes,. . . a great reminder, thank you. You are growing more beautiful every day, inside and out, and it is His Life reflected through and through. The surrendered life is meant to bear much fruit. As we are decreased, His Life flows in and through ours. May He alone be seen, be known and be heard, for we . . . no longer live! Many blessings and much love to you!

  • Great post! The Lord is really stirring us up in regard to humility. I had copied into my Palm the chapter “Prayer and Humility” from E.M. Bounds’ “The Essentials of Prayer” that Lois posted recently. This past Wednesday night I was leading the prayer meeting, and the Lord led me to to read it for our devotion time. Quite a potent and precious reminder of the importance of humility in our lives! Thanks for sharing what you did. Thanks for sharing about the time with your dad, too. God bless!

  • Arielle, I hope you don’t mind but I snatched this post and put it on SI. Keep your eyes on him.. let your outlook be your UPLOOK! ah to be heavenly minded. having heavenly virtues! humility! what wonders there are in the cross.

  • I was so touched when I read your site. I had to call my son-he was just saying that he is discouraged that he has not known any godly young girls with a heart for God. They all seem so superficial. When I read your site, I was praising the Lord for your testimony of His goodness in your life! What a blessing you are! Love– Cindy
