  • “one does not surrender a life in an instant-that which is lifelong can only be surrendered in a lifetime. nor is surrender to the will of God (per se) adequate to fullness of power in Christ. maturity is the accomplishment of years, and i can only surrender to the will of God as i know what that will is. this may take years to know, hence fullness of the Spirit is not instantaneous but progressive as i attain fullness of the Word which reveals the will. if men were filled with the Spirit, they would not write books on that subject, but on the Person whom the Spirit has come to reveal. occupation with Christ is God’s object, not fullness of the Spirit. the apostles saw the effects-Christ exalted-and noted the cause, which was the blessed working of the Comforter. then they realized and exhorted to fullness, not with fullness as the goal, but merely as the path to that great aim of a Christ-centered soul-drawing attention to its center.”

    the way is rubble-strewn
    i cannot tell nor see
    mid all this wandering
which is Thy way for me
    be this my boon, Jehovah
amid stumblings, this is my plea-
    not virtue, zeal, nor worth
    but my simplicity.

  • O, I love this! Reading it is better than hearing it :)

“that which is lifelong can only be surrendered in a lifetime” , “i can only surrender to the will of God as i know what that will is”. wow, this takes some pressure off thinking we have to be perfect RIGHT NOW. But we are responsible for what we do know to do now.

Hope you enjoy the rest of your Jim Elliot book. Share some more as you go along :) Love you!

  • That looks like a good book as he was quite a remarkable man!!!!!!

  • I like that! I would submit heaven will be more of drawing nearer to God without the distraction of sin.

  • Simplicity. I love it.

  • You wrote: “preach the Gospel– if necessary use words.” st. francis of assisi.

It’s necessary!! “Faith comes by hearing”.

  • It isn’t always necessary to preach using words…I have been involved in presence ministry for a long time… there are so many who have heard the words…but have found them empty and hypocritical…actions will speak louder…they see Christ in our lives better that way.

  • Moses spent 40 years learning to be a somebody
and then 40 years learning to be a nobody
and then 40 years learning what God can do with a somebody who is prepared to be a nobody.

…that’s all…God is never in a hurry. He’s Almighty. God is never late. He will be there in time. On His time! He’ll take His time to make you a true woman of God. You know, God wasn’t even in a hurry with the ministry of His Son. 30 years of His life God asked from Him to be subject to His earthly parents.

To think everything has to happen now (and such an attitude I have so many times…and it’s freaking me out )doesn’t reveal zeal, it reveals unbelief. “My time has not yet fully come…” (John 7:8). Jesus had the ability to wait, because He knew that God never made a mistake. It’s true: we should be “redeeming the time” (Eph 5:16). But redeeming the time isn’t the same as doing, doing and doing. If this would have been the case, we should have rebuked Jesus for spending so much time in prayer…

Trust the Lord and “be like men who wait for their master, when he will return from the wedding, that when he comes and knocks they may open to him immediately.” (Luke 12:36)

    Be blessed Arielle!
