  • the higher we see God to be, the lower we should be in our own eyes. there is nothing that will humble us more than the consideration of God. i dare say of every proud heart in the world, that such a one does not know God, never had a sight of the glory of God that he has to do withal. the sight of God will wonderfully humble the heart before Him. job is very famous for this. he says, “with the hearing of the ear i have heard of Thee, but now mine eyes have seen Thee (what follows then upon that), wherefore i abhor myself, and repent in dust and ashes.” (job 42:5-6) job was a holy man, yet he confessed that he had but only heard of God, he never had such a sight of God as God gave him at this time, and upon the sight that he had of God, though he was holy and a gracious man, and could stand in his uprightness, yet he says, “mine eyes have seen Thee, wherefore i abhor myself, and repent in dust and ashes.” oh that God would give such a sight of Himself to all your souls, to those proud, stout, and rebellious sins that have gone on in ways of rebellion against Him. you have heard of God by the hearing of the ear, but have your eyes ever seen Him? if God would but give you a sight of what i have briefly spoken to you, you would certainly fall down before Him, and abhor yourself in dust and ashes.” ~jeremiah burroughs

  • Thank you deeply for your encouragement—you have truly blessed me, as you always do. Please pray that the Lord will show me when to speak and when to be quiet and that I will be able to accept what He tells me to do, in every circumstance, with complete humility, obedience and conviction. Thank you. Be blessed, my sister.

  • “Behold, these are the fringes of His ways;
    And how faint a word we hear of Him!
    Who then can understand the thunder of His power?” (Job 26:14)

    Wonderful words. I read yesterday and today Psalm 143 and some of the verses in there are really, really, really awesome. Like these one:

    “Let me hear Your lovingkindness in the morning;
    For I trust in You;
    Teach me the way in which I should walk;
    For to You I lift up my soul.” (:8)

    “Teach me to do Your will,
    For You are my God;
    Let Your good Spirit lead me on level ground” (:10)

    And especially how David ends:

    “…I am Your servant.” (:12)

    May you hear His lovingkindness this morning! Or, to stay in line with this entry, may your eyes see the beauty of the King (Isaiah 32:17).

    (isn’t that a nice abbreviation …in case you don’t understand the meaning of those letters, which I think is almost unthinkable , they stand for: “Your brother saved by grace through Faith in Christ” )

  • Hi Arielle just to let you know I have updated my blog with abit more of purpose and design :) http://www.xanga.com/sermonindex let me know what you think.

  • Oh man! You’re entries always bless me so much and it’s always what I need to hear. Praise God for you! It’s funny that you mention us becoming lesser and Him greater because I mentioned that last night as I was speaking to a baby shower and doing their devotional. I mentioned that God brings challenges as a mother into our lives to remind us that we are to die to ourselves and be made alive in Christ. That it’s we who no longer live, but Christ lives in us. Your entry is a great add on to that!

  • “the higher we see God to be, the lower we should be in our own eyes”

    Amen!

  • that has been my hearts cry…more of You Lord..and less of me…

  • I apreciate your post. Here is a verse that reminds me of your heart in the matter. Man is but dust and 1,000 years is but a moment. God exalts the humble. Thanks for your thoughts.
    Psalm 90

    Before the mountains were born
           or you brought forth the earth and the world,
           from everlasting to everlasting you are God.

        3 You turn men back to dust,
           saying, “Return to dust, O sons of men.”

        4 For a thousand years in your sight
           are like a day that has just gone by,
           or like a watch in the night.

        5 You sweep men away in the sleep of death;
           they are like the new grass of the morning-

        6 though in the morning it springs up new,
           by evening it is dry and withered.

        7 We are consumed by your anger
           and terrified by your indignation.

        8 You have set our iniquities before you,
           our secret sins in the light of your presence.

        9 All our days pass away under your wrath;
           we finish our years with a moan.

        10 The length of our days is seventy years—
           or eighty, if we have the strength;
           yet their span [a] is but trouble and sorrow,
           for they quickly pass, and we fly away.

        11 Who knows the power of your anger?
           For your wrath is as great as the fear that is due you.

        12 Teach us to number our days aright,
           that we may gain a heart of wisdom.
